CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The cause of the fire that broke out at the Applebee’s at Garden City in Cranston was determined to be accidental, according to R.I. Commerce spokesperson Matthew Touchette.
Touchette said the fire happened after there were “issues” while the hood and ducts were being cleaned, and those details remain under investigation.

Crews were called to the scene around 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday and found heavy flames and large plumes of smoke coming from the roof.
People who live nearby said the fire alarms in their homes were going off due to all of the smoke.
Some of the flames spread to the restaurant next to Applebee’s, but firefighters were able to stop them from spreading any further.
No injuries were reported.
