The large majority of Park Terrace residents have been rehoused after arson incident

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Housing Authority announced, as of Tuesday, 144 of 170 Park Terrace residents have been rehoused in seven different local hotels.

Lifescapes has provided food and lunch for those affected and the Salvation Army is providing gift cards for residents to buy essential items.

“Our team has been working around the clock to support our residents,” said Laura Synder, CEO of Rockford Housing Authority “We are incredibly proud of the swift action and dedication shown by our staff and the overwhelming support from the community.”

The RHA said there is significant fire damage on the first floor and smoke damage on floors two through four. One firefighter and four residents suffered minor injuries.

46-year-old David Marshall has confessed to starting the blaze and is facing charges of arson. He was seen on surveillance video breaking into the building.

Police arrested him downtown a few hours later. Marshall also confessed to setting a fire at Wired Cafe two weeks ago.
