While a few teams cast long shadows on the Wisconsin sports landscape, the next couple months bring a slew of other fascinating, high-level events to the state … and in many cases they’re relatively easy and inexpensive to attend.
Here are events and teams that might not be front of mind the way the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Wisconsin football and major men’s basketball teams are:
FIVE UNDER-THE-RADAR WISCONSIN SPORTING EVENTS
US Speedskating long track national championships
Nov. 1-3, Pettit National Ice Center , 500 S. 84th St.
The top American skaters – including 1,000-meter world record holder Jordan Stolz of Kewaskum and other Olympians and world champions – compete for spots on the United States World Cup team. (The World Cup schedule includes a stop at the Pettit Center from Jan. 31- Feb. 2.)
Admission and parking are free.
NCAA Division I cross country championships
Nov. 23, Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Championship Course , 9002 County Highway PD , adjacent to University Ridge Golf Course in Verona.
