Ukraine Strikes Russian Distilleries with Drones

Ukrainian drones targeted industrial distilleries in Russia on Tuesday, damaging facilities in Yefremov and Luzhlovsky. A Ukrainian official alleged that the distilleries were being used to produce fuel and explosives for Russia’s military.

The strikes marked an unusual choice of target for Ukraine, which typically focuses on military facilities or fuel depots. However, Ukrainian officials maintained that these distilleries had military significance.

Russian authorities reported no casualties, but images circulated online showed fires near the Yefremov distillery. Some observers joked that the attacks would harm Russian morale by disrupting vodka production.

However, a Ukrainian official clarified that the distilleries were being used for military purposes, including the production of explosives and fuel. Business Insider confirmed that one of the distilleries, Biokhim, produces ethyl alcohol and products of strategic importance to the Russian state.

The strikes follow a drone attack on Saturday that targeted industrial sites linked to Russia’s military in Dzerzhinsk.
