Top Hezbollah Leader Killed

Additional Coverage:

Israeli forces have reportedly killed Hashem Safieddine, a high-ranking Hezbollah commander who was likely to take over the organization. The strike also killed around 25 other senior Hezbollah members.

Hezbollah has confirmed Safieddine’s death, stating he has joined his brother, Hassan Nasrallah, the current leader.

The attack comes during US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Israel. During his meeting with Israeli officials, projectiles were intercepted over his hotel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Blinken had a lengthy and productive meeting, while Blinken will proceed to Saudi Arabia for further talks.

Israel has continued airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, and Hezbollah has retaliated with rocket attacks on northern Israel, including a drone strike on Netanyahu’s home.

The strikes come amidst speculation about Israel’s response to Iran’s recent missile attack. Iran insists its neighbors will not allow their territories to be used for attacks against it.
