Group of local golfers is making history: ‘First time it’s ever been done’

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio (WJW) – A group of local golfers are making history by becoming the only all-female team to make it to the PGA Jr. League Championships in New Mexico.

The six athletes range in age from 14 to 17 and went head-to-head all year while representing their high schools, but they would also meet each Wednesday to form Team Ohio in the PGA Jr. League.

“This is the first time it’s ever been done. It’s never been close to being done,” said Chris Reed, who is one of the coaches and whose two daughters are on the team.

He says 72,000 kids played in the PGA Jr. League this year and just 82 made it to the championships.

Of them, there are only 12 females competing and six of them are, again, on Team Ohio. They are Calli Reed, Cammy Reed, Ellie Gonzalez-Ribble, Elizabeth Coleman, Kate Sowers and Gracyn Vidovic.

“And they have a legit chance,” said Reed. “They can do it because these girls are amazing!”
