Shooter identified in officer-involved shooting at Red Roof Inn on SPID

UPDATE: Wednesday 3:00 pm – The identity of the shooter in the Red Roof Inn has been released by the Nueces County Medical Examiner as 27-year-old Christopher Allen Smith, Jr.

ORIGINAL STORY:

One man is dead this morning after opening fire from inside a hotel on the 6800 block of South Padre Island Drive.

It happened last night around 11:30 p.m. at the Red Roof Inn on South Padre Island Drive.

A CCPD officer is walking out of a hotel room where a suspect opened fire and was shot and killed by police Tuesday night around 11:30 p.m.

Corpus Christi Police tell KRIS 6 they received calls about a man shooting a gun from the balcony towards the poolside of the hotel.

When they arrived, the suspect was in the hotel room. CCPD secured the area and evacuated rooms nearby.
