PennDOT is working with local schools to help keep kids safe and remind motorists that passing a stopped school bus is both dangerous and illegal.
The initiative is called Operation Safe Stop, which asks school districts across the Commonwealth to have bus drivers make a concerted effort to crack down on illegal passers to help keep kids safe.

Drivers are asked to compile information about any illegal pass that takes place, including the stretch of road, the offending vehicle, and the number of drivers passing the stopped bus. The district then works with PennDOT as well as local police to crack down on problem motorists.
“Remember to stop, it only takes a minute or two for a student to get off the bus. We all have busy lives, but it’s just very important that we put students first all the time,” said Ken Berlin, superintendent of the Wattsburg Area School District.
This is the 28th year of Operation Safe Stop.
