Saturday is the day for Cheatham and Madison County residents to safely dispose of their household hazardous waste materials at designated drop-off locations in Ashland City and Jackson.
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is encouraging individuals to take advantage of the free service and remove materials considered flammable, toxic, reactive, and corrosive from their homes.
From 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. drop-offs can be made at the City of Jackson Public Services Complex at 164 South Conalco Drive in Jackson. Wendy Braxter-Rhyne, the contact for Jackson’s event, can be reached at (731) 425-8217 for questions.
Hazardous materials eligible for disposal, which should not be placed in the regular garbage, include cleaning fluids, pesticides, mercury thermometers and thermostats, fluorescent lamps, lithium and button batteries, aerosols, adhesives, medications, brake fluid, swimming pool chemicals, paint thinner, and used needles in sturdy containers.
