Wilsonville boys soccer suffers a rare setback

The Wilsonville boys soccer team isn’t going to sneak up on anyone.

The Wildcats – state semifinalists a year ago – know they’re going to get everybody’s best shot and that’s just what happened on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when Wilsonville dropped a 3-2 decision to Parkrose at Parkrose High School.

“The key to (the) result for us was conceding first and not keeping our momentum going when we did have the lead,” said Wilsonville senior defender and team captain Andrew McDougal. “We struggled to finish other than the two goals that Alex (Aguiar) scored and didn’t perform well on the defensive end overall either, which contributed to our loss.”

“The biggest (key was) our team effort fluctuating based on their performance,” added Wildcat senior forward/midfielder Alex Aguiar, who scored both his team’s goals. “When we’re doing well, our energy and intensity increase, but when we struggle, our effort tends to drop off.”

With the loss, t he fourth-ranked Wildcats’ second straight, Wilsonville fell to 4-2 in the Northwest Oregon Conference and 8-4 overall. Next up, the Wildcats play Milwaukie at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Milwaukie High School.
