Sussex Sheriff’s Office continues search for leads a year after deadly home invasion

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Sussex County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for answers a year after a home invasion left a wife dead and her husband injured , with authorities now releasing photos of two persons of interest.

Just before midnight on Oct. 24, 2023, the sheriff’s office was called to a home on East Church Street in the town of Wakefield for report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Judy and Dan Baldwin — a couple in their mid-70s — who had both been shot inside of their home by intruders.

Authorities told 8News that Judy was found dead in a bedroom, while Dan was found with life-threatening injuries in the living room.

At the time of the shooting, the sheriff’s office told 8News that this appeared to be a random robbery. However, despite jewelry found in the garage — which was found open by deputies when they arrived at the home — nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Suspect information was also provided at the time of the shooting. Authorities described the suspects as two men between 25 and 30 years of age.
