Speedway police: Man shot and killed in Speedway

SPEEDWAY, Ind. – Officers with the Speedway Police Department are investigating a shooting that killed a man early Thursday morning.

According to Speedway PD, around 12:15 a.m. officers were in the area of West 10th St. and North Norfolk St. when they heard several gunshots coming from the 1100 block of North Norfolk street.

When officers were checking the area, they located a white vehicle with multiple bullet holes in the passenger side of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, police reportedly found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until medical services arrived.

Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. On Thursday, officials with the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the person who died as 28-year-old Lawrence D-Marcus Echols III -Truitt.

Police have not given any information on a suspect or a motive for the shooting. Officials with the Speedway Police Department did confirm with FOX59/CBS4 that this is the first homicide in Speedway in 2024.
