Cardinals could take chance on projected $10 million Dodgers hurler

The St. Louis Cardinals finished the season 83-79, improving by 12 wins over 2023. However, it wasn’t good enough for them to make it to the playoffs.

Now, the team is expected to enter a rebuild, which means several players could be traded away.

Still, they should look to add some players this offseason and at least try to avoid another 90-loss season.

Any moves they make won’t be earthshattering by any means, but they could still be impactful.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic expects Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler to receive a one-year, $10 million contract in free agency. Perhaps the Cardinals could take a look.

“The way Buehler pitched for much of the regular season, it didn’t appear he would regain his past form after returning from a second Tommy John surgery. But he made a big impression in Game 3 of the NLCS, when he dominated the Mets over four shutout innings,” Bowden wrote.

“Buehler will probably have to sign a one-year contract with a mutual option, then show he can pitch a full season healthy and rebuild his value.”
