‘I thought I’d never see my family again’: Boy, 10, escapes kidnapper in Little Village

CHICAGO — Chicago police are searching for a man suspected of kidnapping a 10-year-old boy in the city’s Little Village neighborhood.

Police said the boy was able to escape the man when he tried to make a phone call. WGN News spoke with the boy Thursday, who recounted the story.

“I was scared. I thought I’d never see my family again,” the boy told WGN.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday on the 3000 block of South Springfield.

According to a community alert, the boy was in his front yard when a man grabbed the victim and put his arm around his neck and mouth.

The man forced the boy to walk out of the yard and North on Springfield Avenue, then east on 30th Street to Millard Avenue.

According to police, the boy was able to break free from the man when the offender tried to make a phone call.

The boy was able to run from the man back to his home. He was found by his father and police were notified. The boy was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

Police said the man is described as African-American, between 5’5 – 5’10, medium build and dark-brown complexion. He was wearing a black fabric mask covering his head with his eyes visible and black beard showing out of the bottom of mask, black hoodie sweatshirt, black pants with rips on the legs.
