HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The dry stretch we have seen in October has supported worsening drought conditions across North Alabama. The abnormally dry and warm conditions have led to an increased fire threat for the region.
With the dry weather forecast to continue into November, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has issued a Fire Danger Advisory for Jackson, Limestone, and Madison counties until significant rainfall is received.
October to end driest in 100 years as drought conditions worsen
The abnormally dry and warm conditions will increase the wildfire potential, especially in areas experiencing Moderate Drought conditions.
Along with the three counties in North Alabama, 19 counties in southwest Alabama are also included in the Advisory.
“Dead pine trees from last year’s drought and the resulting southern pine beetle outbreak this year are contributing to fire intensity, which challenges containment efforts and presents additional hazards to firefighters,” said AFC Fire Analyst Ethan Barrett
