OPELIKA, Ala . – A 14-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, was arrested Wednesday by Opelika Police on allegations of Making a Terroristic Threat, a felony. The arrest follows a lockdown at Opelika High School on Tuesday when a threatening phone call claimed someone was on their way to shoot up the school.
The threat led to an immediate lockdown at Opelika High School, as a protective perimeter was formed around the school with armed law enforcement officers while the danger could be investigated. Parents gathered across the street at Southern Union, waiting to check their students out of school. Protective measures were taken at all Opelika City Schools on the day of the alleged threat.
Opelika Police Detectives, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), traced the call to a residence in Montgomery. Detectives and members of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) executed a search warrant at the juvenile’s home, where the phone allegedly used to make the threat was found in the teen’s possession.
