Indianapolis man sentenced to 50 years for 4-month robbery string

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man faces a 50-year sentence for his role in a robbery string that occurred between December 2021 and March 2022.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Jovonni Sanders was sentenced on Thursday to 40 years in prison followed by 10 years suspended for his role in 15 armed robberies, all of which took place over four months . Some of these robberies even occurred on the same day, the MCPO said.

Per the MCPO, this stems from a September guilty plea. There, Sanders pleaded guilty to one count of attempted armed robbery (Level 3 Felony), 12 counts of armed robbery (all Level 3 Felonies) and two counts of robbery (both Level 5 Felonies).

The MCPO then added that some of the businesses Sanders robbed included gas stations, a liquor store, a general store, several Dollar Generals and one restaurant across Marion County.

“It’s a miracle that no one was physically hurt throughout the defendant’s crime spree,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “With the significant sentence delivered through this agreement, the defendant has accepted accountability for his dangerous actions and will spend the majority of his life behind bars.”
