St. Pete woman tries setting ex’s house on fire with family inside: affidavit

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A St. Petersburg woman is behind bars after she attempted to set fire to her ex-girlfriend’s home, knowing her family was inside, according to an affidavit.

On Sunday, the victim’s mother told officials that 21-year-old Shammah Sherrod was outside her daughter’s window at their Largo home, trying to set fire to the resident.

The daughter, who was Sherrod’s ex-girlfriend, said when she smelled fire, she saw Sherrod pour lighter fluid on her window and ignite a flame, the affidavit said. Other family members inside also witnessed Sherrod with the lighter fluid and lighter.

The mother then “intervened to prevent the flame from spreading” and the two got into an altercation. That’s when Sherrod told the mom she would “kill them all,” according to the document.

A responding officer reported seeing discoloration in the sand, which “appeared to be from a liquid,”, along with a container of lighter fluid, a red lighter, and a spray bottle of bleach.
