St. Pete steakhouse to be transformed into funeral home

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — After serving up prime rib and blooming onions for over two decades, a St. Petersburg steakhouse will soon be transformed into a funeral home.

Harold Seltzer’s Steakhouse, located off of Tyrone Boulevard, closed its doors for good on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The closure came after owner Harold Seltzer announced his retirement. However, in a notice posted to the restaurant’s website, Seltzer said the building will “continue to serve the community in a new and meaningful way.”

Its new owner, Service Company Interantional, runs several funeral service locations across the country, with plans to turn the steakhouse into a Dignity Memorial-branded celebration of life center.

“I am joyful that I will no longer be working 60+ hours each week and will have the opportunity to spend more time with my wife, children and grandchildren,” Seltzer said. “I am sad because it has been a labor of love since 1995.”
