Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty co-favorites for Heisman Trophy

With Miami and Florida State set to battle Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium, Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward suddenly is a co-favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Ward, who has been among the Heisman leaders all season, continues to put up stellar passing numbers. His fellow Heisman favorite, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, took a week off from his assault on Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record and resumes that chase against UNLV on Friday night.

The final week of October leads us one step closer to the Heisman ceremony in New York in December. Besides Ward and Jeanty, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel is a step behind and remains a serious contender. The rest of the pack appears to be falling off.

Here are this week’s odds, courtesy of noted national oddsmaker Danny Sheridan:

Cam Ward, Ashton Jeanty 3:1

Ward leads the nation in passing yards (2,538) and passing touchdowns (24) and is ranked second in passer rating (183.5). He also has signed with Adidas and will represent the company on and off the field, the company announced on Wednesday. That deal becomes more valuable to Adidas if Ward wins the Heisman.
