World War II aircraft visiting Springfield-Branson National Airport

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield-Branson National Airport is welcoming a historic B-29 Superfortress bomber to Springfield.

The B-29, also known as “Doc,” will be at the airport from Nov. 1-3 as part of the B-29 Doc History Restored Tour that has spanned 25 cities in 15 states in 2024.

The historic aircraft was one of 1,644 B-29 Superfortresses made by the Boeing Company during World War II. Today, the B-29 Doc is one of only two of its kind that is still able to fly.

Visitors will be able to tour the historic bomber and ride the B-29 Doc Flight Experience at the airport’s general aviation complex at 2801 N. General Aviation Ave.

Ground and cockpit tours will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 with an admission of $10 per person or $20 per family. The B-29 Doc Flight Experience ride will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9-11 a.m. with prices starting at $600.
