14-year-old girl shot in Central Falls

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — A 14-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot Thursday morning in Central Falls.

Police were called to a home on Earle Street just before 9 a.m. for a report of an unconscious girl.

She was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

A 12 News crew on scene saw crime scene tape blocking off the area and officers walking in and out of a multi-family home.

It’s still unclear what led up to the shooting.

Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera posted on social media that she’s “heartbroken by the news that a young girl was shot in our city today.”

“My heart aches for her and her family as they face this unimaginable pain, and I am praying with all my heart for her recovery,” Rivera wrote. “As a mother and your mayor, I’ve fought tirelessly to make our streets safer and prevent these senseless acts of violence. But today is a reminder that we still have so much work to do.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Falls Police Department at (401) 727-7411 or the TIPS line at (401) 727-7420.
