10 spooky dishes and drinks to try in Madison

Halloween is a week away. Before we know it, the streets will be inundated with Sabrina Carpenters, minions, Shrinker Bobs, the emotions from “Inside Out” and Dr. Dooms clamoring for treats (or tricks, if that’s your thing).

Madisonians don’t have to wait for Oct. 31 to start with the treats, however. While several local restaurants and food businesses have unveiled Halloween-themed specials, others have mainstay entrees, sides and beverages that seem like they were made to be enjoyed during the scariest time of the year.

Here are ten dishes and drinks with “spooky” names to order at Madison restaurants and bars in celebration of Halloween.

Ghost Fries at Settle Down Tavern

Ghost Fries at Settle Down Tavern ( 117 S. Pinckney St. ) are a hot and spicy twist on the establishment’s classic french fries. Tossed in ghost pepper powder and paired with blue cheese, Settle Down’s chefs recommend ordering ranch for dipping.

Pumpkin Spice Pancakes at Bassett Street Brunch Club

Bassett Street Brunch Club ( 444 W. Johnson St. ) makes its pumpkin spice pancakes in-house. The pancakes themselves are not the only pumpkin-flavored component of the dish. They’re topped with a pumpkin-flavored, whipped cream cheese and a pumpkin-flavored maple glaze, too.
