OHSU President Dr. Danny Jacobs steps down after more than 6 years in role

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Oregon Health and Science University’s president is stepping down after more than six years at the helm.

Dr. Danny Jacobs , M.D., M.P.H., FACS, made the announcement on Thursday, in part citing “personal reasons.”

Jacobs was appointed OHSU’s fifth president in 2018 after a months-long search by the board of directors . The trained surgeon was previously from the University of Texas Medical Branch, serving as executive vice president, provost and dean of the school of medicine.

“After careful consideration and for personal reasons, I have informed Board Chair Chad Paulson of my intent to resign as president, effective upon the appointment of a successor. I have shared my recommendations on succession planning with him and fully intend to stay engaged in an advisory role during the transition,” Jacobs said via OHSU . “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to serve OHSU and the state of Oregon. My wife, Nancy, and I wish everyone the best of all things for the future.”
