Both of these horrific tragedies, allegedly carried out by fathers with known histories of violence, occurred this year during child custody exchanges. These murders were not isolated or unpredictable; they were the foreseeable result of a legal system that forces victims of domestic violence to comply with shared custody orders. As we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we must ask: Why do aggressive men with violent pasts still have access to their children? And what can we do to prevent this dangerous practice?
