Kellam High School wins top award at Panther Band Classic

The Marching Knights from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach were named the top overall band at the 10th annual Panther Band Classic at Pasquotank County High School last weekend.

The Kellam Marching Knights were awarded the Memorial Milton H. Sawyer Grand Champion Trophy after their first-ever performance in the annual band competition.

According to Nicholas “Nick” Stanley, director of bands at Pasquotank County High School, 13 bands from across the region and Virginia participated in the event, which was attended by more than 1,500 people.

Kellam High School won the Class 2-A division in the Band Classic, while the Camden County High School Marching Bruins came in second and the Louisburg Magnet High School’s Marching Warriors placed third.

In the Class 1-A division, the Cape Hatteras Secondary School Marching Hurricanes won first place, the Gates County High School Marching Red Barons placed second, the Marching Aces of John A. Holmes High School finished third, and the Northampton County High School Marching Yellow Jackets of Virginia came in fourth.
