I started planning my pool in April of last year. I was finally able to take a swim in it the last week of August, the end of the traditional swimming pool summer. I included a water heater thinking it would allow me to swim year round.
I have not turned on my gas pool water heater yet. I went for a swim a couple of weeks ago, near mid-October. The water felt nice. By the way, my pool looks as pristine and clean still as it does in the picture above. I have a robot that does a superb job cleaning the pool.
So, without the use of the water heater, I wondered how cold could it get before I got hypothermia while going for a swim.
Hypothermia is defined as a body core temperature below 35.0 °C (95.0 °F) in humans., Symptoms depend on the temperature. In mild hypothermia, there is shivering and mental confusion. In moderate hypothermia, shivering stops, and confusion increases.[3] In severe hypothermia, there may be hallucinations and paradoxical undressing, in which a person removes their clothing, as well as an increased risk of heart-stopping.
