Police search high school campus for burglary suspect in Long Beach

The campus of a Long Beach high school was searched by police looking for a burglary suspect early Friday morning.

“There is a large police presence focused on Millikan High School on the 2800 block of Snowden Avenue as LBPD officers and SWAT search the campus for a burglary suspect,” the Long Beach Police Department posted on X at 5:30 a.m.

No suspect description or details regarding the burglary were provided by police.

It was initially unclear if the incident would impact classes Friday morning.

“LBUSD will notify the Millikan HS community regarding the impact to school opening hours,” police said.

In its first notice to the school community, the administration asked that staff and students delay their arrival on campus until at least 7 a.m.

In a later update, officials said police had completed their sweep and the campus was secure.

“We are proceeding with our regular schedule and look forward to today’s planned Homecoming festivities,” the update stated.

Law enforcement was expected to remain on campus for part of the morning to continue a forensics investigation in what was described as “the affected bungalow.”
