With early voting underway, Maryland US Senate race shifts into high gear

BALTIMORE, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The clock is ticking in Maryland on the closely-watched U.S. Senate race, and with early voting underway, Democrat Angela Alsobrooks and Republican Larry Hogan are making their final pitches to voters.

Rolling into the weekend, former Governor Larry Hogan rallied firefighters and first responders in Millersville in the sprint to election day.

The latest Emerson College Polling/The Hill/DC News Now survey shows Alsobrooks opening a double-digit lead.

“We’re winning independents overwhelmingly, and we just have to convince a few more of those Democrats who voted for me twice and have a favorable opinion that they should still try to send me to Washington to try to make a difference,” said Hogan, regarding the race for the seat.

Boyd Rutherford was Hogan’s lieutenant governor for both of Hogan’s terms in Annapolis. He said he is confident that voters will see the governor’s executive leadership as an asset in the U.S. Senate.

“He can adjust himself to being a legislator versus being an executive,” Rutherford noted.
