‘Unbecoming to an elected official’: Hillsboro candidate Marc Grambo loses endorsements over online conduct

A Hillsboro City Council candidate is facing backlash and revoked endorsements following conduct revealed on social media earlier this week.

In a vote of 51-9, the Democratic Party of Washington County rescinded its endorsement of Marc Grambo on Wednesday, Oct. 23, because of inflammatory remarks the candidate made. Earlier this week, a private conversation was shared over social media in which Grambo called someone an “evil monster who kills Jewish babies” and “rapes Jewish women.”

But it wasn’t necessarily the sentiment that made the party turn its back on Grambo, but the way in which he was interacting with someone who opposed his view, said party Chair Martita Meier.

“The party found the behavior in question unbecoming to an elected official. The Democratic Party believes it is of the utmost importance that an elected candidate can and will maintain their temper, tone and dignity in stressful situations; regardless of whether they themselves feel attacked. Language aiming to personally demean or threaten are not condoned, and it is for this reason that the endorsement to rescind passed with over a (two-thirds) vote in favor,” Meier said.
