Disturbance at Monroe ISD becomes hostage situation

MONROE Law enforcement officers arrested a Monroe County ISD employee after a home invasion and hostage situation Friday, Oct. 25, according to a news release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

While assigned to the ISD, Sergeant Jason Miller was alerted by staff about a male subject acting erratic outside the ISD building. Miller located the subject, identified as an ISD employee, in a rear parking lot and engaged him in conversation. While speaking, however, the subject made movements and gestures that led Miller to believe he was armed.

Miller alerted Monroe County Central Dispatch, prompting multiple units from across the county to converge on the area. The suspect walked southbound from the school and off school grounds with Miller following. Once off school grounds, the subject entered an unlocked residence in the 1100 block of South Raisinville Road which was occupied by one man and two women.

The subject took one of the women hostage and barricaded himself in a bedroom. Deputies surrounded the residence and entered the home, at which point they began negotiations with the subject. Ultimately, they forced entry into the bedroom, rescuing the hostage and taking the suspect into custody for home invasion.
