‘Coyote attack’ on Irvine boy, 10, was actually dog bite, officials say

The Irvine boy who said he was bitten by a coyote while riding his bike on Tuesday was actually bitten by a dog, officials said.

As reported by the Orange County Register , the California Department of Fish and Wildlife found dog DNA — not coyote — on the boy’s clothing.

The boy was headed to Portola Springs Elementary School when he realized he’d been bitten, and he reported the attack once he arrived at school.

Police described the wound as minor.

The boy reported that he’d seen a coyote run away after he was bitten, but wildlife officials could not locate any coyotes in the area after searching for a couple of days, the Register reports.
