Illinois man to stand trial for fatal shooting of UW-Whitewater gymnast

WHITEWATER, Wis. — An Illinois man charged in a shooting that killed UW-Whitewater gymnast on Aug 30 is set to go to trial.

Chad Richards, 23 of Loves Park, Ill., is charged with felony 1st-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon.

Online court records show Richards will stand trial on Nov 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Walworth County Judicial Center.

Kara Welsh, 21, of Plainfield, Ill., was shot and killed on Aug 30 inside an apartment on W. Whitewater Street.
