ECS, Baylor repeat as TSSAA Division II girls soccer state champions

The TSSAA Division II state soccer championships came to a close Friday night as Evangelical Christian and Baylor captured its second straight state titles at Boyd Buchanan in Chattanooga.

ECS knocked off Lausanne, 2-0, in Friday’s DII-A final to capture the program’s fourth championship and second back-to-back. ECS captured titles in 2015 and ’16. The Eagles beat USJ, 4-0, in Thursday’s semifinal.

ECS (14-7-1) wasted no time pushing through a goal against Lausanne. Lea Sanvee unleashed a shot that was initially saved by Lausanne goalkeeper Molly Fuhrman, but Sanvee rebounded the miss, took a few dribbles and drilled the ball in the back of the net in the 4th minute of the game.

Allie Broadway connected on a goal with over three minutes remaining in the first half. ECS’s defense did the rest, limiting Lausanne to just seven shots in the game and only two corner kicks. The Eagles finished the season with seven straight wins.
