Troopers release cause of I-81 crash in Lebanon County that killed 1, injured 3 others

LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — New details in the fatal I-81 crash in Lebanon County that caused the road to be closed for the afternoon were released by Pennsylvania State Police.

A tractor-trailer driver crashed into the back of a vehicle that was stopped in traffic because of congestion on I-81 south in East Hanover Township at 11:24 a.m. Thursday, State Police at Jonestown said in a crash report.

Following the collision, the tractor-trailer crashed into the back of another vehicle and pushed that into the back of a stopped tractor-trailer, Troopers said.

The driver of the third vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Troopers said. Three others, two drivers and a passenger, were taken to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation.

The Lebanon County Coroner’s Office, along with Fort Indiantown Gap Fire, Life Lion EMS and PennDOT helped Troopers at the scene.
