Too late to prevent OD death: Father of fentanyl victim reflects on dealer’s arrest

PORT CHARLOTTE — Three years ago, Gregory Lisk learned his son Zachary Lisk had died from a fentanyl-linked overdose.

Last year, the man who sold Zachary those drugs — Scott Hanlon — was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

But for Gregory, the most difficult part of the case was learning that deputies in Charlotte County knew that Hanlon had been making drug sales — only for his arrest to come months later.

“That’s tough for me to swallow … who’s making that decision?” Gregory Lisk said in a phone interview.

‘VERY GREGARIOUS, VERY OUTGOING’At the time of his death, Zachary Lisk, 29, had been staying with his grandmother in Charlotte County.

Gregory Lisk described his son as an active, extroverted young man who loved sports and flirting with girls, working as a bartender and a landscaper.

“Very gregarious, very outgoing,” he said.

Despite living across the country — Gregory Lisk still lives in New York — father and son were in constant communication.

“Every day, we’d talk. We were thick as thieves.”
