A 41-year-old man died following a Thursday night collision in which impairment is suspected, Phoenix police said Friday.
The crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. Oct. 24 near 7300 West Thomas Road. Officers found Kruger Alexis Marenco Montecino with critical injuries. He died later at a hospital.
Detectives took over the investigation and said preliminary information suggests that a pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old man was headed east on West Thomas Road. The truck did not have headlights on and seemed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, according to reports from witnesses.
The victim’s sedan was northbound on 73rd Lane and attempting to turn left onto westbound Thomas Road when the collision occurred, police said.
The truck driver was evaluated at the scene, and impairment is suspected to be a factor. He was processed for DUI-related charges, and police said a final charging decision will be made once the collision reconstruction is completed.
