FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – A Springfield man was arrested for his role in a hit and run crash that killed a motorcyclist earlier this year.
According to a media release from the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), the acciident occurred May 12, 2024.
At approximately 5:18 that morning, officers responded to a crash on Rolling Road near Delong Drive involving a 2003 Honda 1300 motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, Cornell Parish III, 32, of Woodbridge was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
During a preliminary investigation by the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit, evidence found at the scene indicated that a BMW sedan may have been involved.
Since then, law enforcement received tips and followed several leads related to the incident.
Detectives eventually determined Michael Burghardt of Springfield was driving the 2022 BMW M440i in the May crash. Burghardt is belived to have been traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when he struck the Parish, who was traveling in the southbound lanes.
