Red Sox officially hire former Yankees coach for new role in Boston

The Boston Red Sox made changes to their coaching staff after the 2024 season came to a close, with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow moving on from six coaches, including their assistant hitting coach.

On Sunday, the Red Sox announced that they’ve officially hired Dillon Lawson as their new assistant hitting coach.

Lawson played college baseball at Transylvania University and coached in the college game at Lindenwood University (2007-09), IMG Academy (2010-11), Moorehead State (2009-12), Southeast Missouri State University (2012-15) and Missouri (2018).

He joined the New York Yankees as a minor-league hitting coordinator and was promoted to their major-league hitting coach in 2021 before they fired him midway through 2023.

Since then, Lawson has been working with the Red Sox as a hitting coordinator in the minor leagues.

In his new role, Lawson will work alongside Ben Rosenthal and under Pete Fatse to improve the team’s offense for 2025.
