RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — According to the Virginia Tourism Corporation , Virginia is home to many famous musicians and bands.
8News has compiled a list of five famous musicians and bands from Virginia, as well as some of the marks they have made in and out of the state.
Lucy Dacus
Richmond-area native Lucy Dacus is an indie rock artist known for her song “Night Shift,” which has garnered more than 100 million streams on the music streaming app Spotify as of October 2024.
The music video for Dacus’ song “Hot & Heavy,” featured in her 2021 album “Home Video,” was filmed at the Byrd Theatre in Richmond.
Dacus is also part of the band boygenius with fellow music artists Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, which debuted their first extended play , or EP, in 2018.
In February 2024, the supergroup won three Grammys at the 66th annual Grammy Awards , with their 2023 album, “The Record,” winning for best alternative album, and their song “Not Strong Enough” winning for best rock performance and best rock song.
