Coast Guard searching for missing contractor at Portsmouth Marine Terminal

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The search is on for a missing contractor from Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT), according to the Coast Guard.

Around 4 p.m. Saturday, the port authority notified the Coast Guard that Derrick L. Fluellen was last seen while working on the M/V Atlantic Oceanic at the PMT shipyard.

The port authority reported Fluellen could not be found after an extensive search of the ship and a wellness check at his home with his family.

Additionally, authorities have interviewed Fluellen’s coworkers and analyzed his cell phone data.

Coast Guard crews from Station Portsmouth and Air Station Elizabeth City are searching for Fluellen with sonar and by boat and helicopter.

Other agencies involved in the search include, the Port Authority Police Department, Portsmouth Marine Police Department, Norfolk Police Department and Chesapeake Emergency Services.
