DENVER ( KDVR ) — A town in northern Colorado was the coldest place in the contiguous United States Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center releases national high and low temperatures each morning on X, and on Saturday, a small local town was frigid.
Denver hits later-than-usual first freeze of the season
Walden, Colorado was officially the coldest place in the U.S. on Saturday with a low of 15 degrees. The town tied with a spot 32 miles southwest of Bynum, Montana. In comparison, Denver’s low temperature for that same morning was 28 degrees.
The data does not include Alaska and Hawaii.
Walden is a statutory town in Jackson County near the Colorado-Wyoming border. According to the 2022 census, Walden had a population of 569.
NWS said two other Colorado towns were nearly as cold as Walden. Runners-up included Fraser at 17 degrees and Crested Butte at 18 degrees.
