Man arrested for fatal hit-and-run in Pickens Co.

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been arrested in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash in Pickens County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested 25-year-old Jose Brito-Ruiz, of Greenville, following an incident that occurred after 11 p.m. on Farrs Bridge Road.

On Friday, Oct. 25, troopers said Brito-Ruiz was operating a Toyota RAV4 traveling north when he reportedly collided with an ATV attempting to turn from Old Vinland School Road.

The driver of the ATV died at the scene.

The Pickens County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 37-year-old Kyle Thornall, of Easley.

It was reported that after the crash, Brito-Ruiz fled the scene and was later apprehended.

Troopers charged the suspect with felony DUI with death and leaving the scene of an accident with death.

Brito-Ruiz was booked into the Pickens County Detention Center according to troopers.

The crash remains under investigation by the SCHP.
