TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — “Trooper” the dog rescued by Florida Highway Patrol during Hurricane Milton, has hundreds of adoption applications, according to Leon County Humane Society.
An FHP officer found Trooper in water up to his chest, tied to the fence on I-75 near Tampa as the community was evacuating for Hurricane Milton.
The dog was taken to Leon County Humane Society in Tallahassee where he has been housed since.
According to the Humane Society, Trooper will be with an owner who is well-suited to offer him a permanent home, and experience with the breed.
As Trooper recovers in a foster home, the Humane Society wants to remind the community there are over three million dogs in shelters in the U.S. all looking for their forever homes.
“If Trooper stole your heart, we know other dogs will too. Every single dog has a story,” the Leon County Humane Society said.
