(COLORADO SPRINGS) — We had a taste of chilly temperatures during the weekend, but even though it warmed up, the FOX21 News Storm Team says the first hard freeze of the year is approaching. However, according to the records, this year’s first freeze might be a little later than normal.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the first hard freeze this year will be almost a month late. On average, for Colorado Springs, the first date for a hard freeze is Oct.1. For Pueblo, it is Oct. 8 and in Alamosa, it is Sept. 11. For this year, we expect the hard freeze to happen the night of Oct. 29.
Although this freeze is late, it will not be the latest on record. In Colorado Springs, the latest was October 31, 1963, while in Pueblo it was November 1st of the same year. In Alamosa, it was on October 4, 1997.
