Fresno pups shine at Tower District costume contest

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A crowd of costumed canines strutted their stuff on Sunday in Fresno’s Tower District, with the best dressed among them winning prizes for their spooky suits.

The Tower District Pooch Parade took place near the corner of East Hedges Avenue and North Wishon Avenue. The event hosted a turnout that stunned organizers, especially after some feared that the parade would not go ahead.

“It almost dropped off this year,” said Cami Cipolla with the Tower District Business Association. “There was a little bit of an organization change. But we knew how important it was to the community to have this event.”

Cipolla says the parade has been a staple of the neighborhood for decades.

Cipolla says the Tower District Business Association has only recently begun organizing events in the Tower District, but turnout for the pooch parade was beyond anything organizers could have imagined.

“It really fills my heart,” Cipolla says. “We were hoping that we’d have maybe 20 participants and, you know, maybe a few kids come out to trick or treat too.”
