(WMBD) — Central Illinois had bands taking road trips three different directions this weekend, with some bringing home hardware.
Three competitions took place including Bands of America in St. Louis, Illinois Marching Band Championships at the University of Illinois and the Marching Band Classic at Western Illinois University.
Bands of America
Morton High School and Limestone Community High School competed at Bands of America, a Super Regional competition of bands from across the United States.
Morton finished 10th overall, making it to the finals.
“There were moments that a lot of students think they pushed themselves past what they thought was possible,” said Katrina Fitzpatrick, co-director of the Morton Marching Band.
Fitzpatrick also said just as much hard work was put in by parents as it was students.
“Every time we go to a show, there are people driving busses, there are people driving equipment, trucks,” she said. “We have to feed the children. We have to make sure the kids get their meds. I just definitely want to make sure that our gratitude goes out to everyone behind the scenes that makes what you see on the field possible.”
