PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has given Illinois almost $19 million to help with projects focused on supporting farmers and ranchers to protect the land.
“Today’s awards make sure that the people who know those landscapes best—farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners—have the resources they need to lead this important work.” said John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy
According to the department, the money will go to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners to adopt and expand local conservation strategies as well as work towards the climate crisis.

The money was made available due to the Farm Bill and Inflation Reduction Act which gave the USDA $19.5 Billion to support their conservation efforts the USDA said.
The projects will help farmers save money and helps support the USDA’s priorities of conservation and climate.
There are six projects to help to reduce livestock’s methane emissions and 16 projects to help with getting water to places facing droughts the USDA said.
