Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Tyler Baron is having a solid season with the Miami Hurricanes.
Baron, who transferred to Miami after playing at Tennessee from 2020 to 2023, has 4.5 sacks and 24 total tackles so far this season for the Hurricanes.
While the former Vol is finding success in South Beach, he had a moment in Miami’s win against Florida State this past weekend that he’d probably like to forget.
Baron had one of the more egregious roughing the passer calls against the Seminoles that you’ll ever see.
The Hurricanes stopped Florida State on a third down play in the fourth quarter, but the Seminoles were given a first down thanks to Baron’s very late hit.
That’s about as late as it gets. Fortunately for Baron, Florida State was unable to take advantage of the free first down, eventually giving the ball back to Miami without scoring.
There’s no doubt that Baron was playing through the whistle on that play. But that’s an instance where he’s gotta have a little better awareness of the situation. The good news for Miami, though, is that Baron will almost certainly learn from that late hit, which will be important as the undefeated Hurricanes continue their march to the College Football Playoff.
