Northern Nevada is bracing for a shift in weather as a cold front sweeps through the region. Wintry precipitation is expected to taper off overnight, with lingering light showers continuing into Tuesday afternoon. Following this system, temperatures will plummet, leading to widespread hard freezes on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, particularly in Sierra valleys where temperatures could drop to the mid-teens.
Despite yesterday’s milder conditions, the incoming weather has brought light rain and mountain snow, with some higher elevations in the Sierra receiving up to half an inch of precipitation. Snow levels are forecasted to fall to around 5,000 to 5,500 feet, with localized areas seeing a chance for a few inches of fresh snowfall. After a brief respite midweek, another storm system is predicted to impact the region late Thursday into Saturday, bringing additional chances for rain and snow, particularly across the Sierra and western Nevada. Residents are advised to prepare for the colder conditions and to protect sensitive plants and pets from the frigid temperatures.
